Light Modulator

Static and shifting plates contrast to create a play of views. The armadillo’s plates of armor inspire the variety of function that the surface provides. Its shifting shell acts as protection from harm and is easily manipulated to carryout everyday function. The same goes for the shifting plates on the wall. When there is harsh light or the interior calls for a peaceful atmosphere, the panels can be closed.

Prefabricated Showroom

The structure of the dandelion generated ideas of constructing pivoting joints that extend outward to form a semi-porous membrane. This membrane reacts to the exterior and interior environments by catching light with translucent skin parts and large light vessels placed in the roof. The columns hold the roof and the multiple layers of the roof are what resists lateral forces.

Exploring the concept of filtration of public space leading up to and within the vertical hotel project. Vertical circulation connects compressed and expanded spaces, whether it be the guest rooms and the spa or the tree-filled park and the beach.

The Roman Road, clad in Travertine, proceeds through the housing structures, folding down through the gardens making its way to the cyclical promenade. Below the road lies an integrated aqueduct system providing water from the river to garden plots and the baths.

Desert Center for Clay Arts

Envisioning and identifying a site through enmeshed horizons requires sky, earth, light, orientation and experiential conditions. Surviving harsh desert conditions is an architectural challenge - dwelling space is bounded by a southern facing thermal mass and chimney, water tank is in closest proximity to a stream, studio apertures are placed on east and west facades, studios and firing kilns are sunken below grade and articulated roof structures funnel winds and collect rain water.
